Bak Kut Teh @ Danau Kota Setapak

There are several Bak Kut Teh shops in Setapak area. Restoran Chuan Kee is one of the popular shops here and always packs with people. During the outbreak of Nipah Virus or JE (Japanese encephalitis) in 1998 where pork meat was totally avoided by people and pork related business was badly hit. It took a long while for the public to gain confidence to eat pork. BKT shops have to swap pork meat with chicken meat. It was called Chick Kut Teh instead of Bak Kut Teh. I remember Chuan Kee had a slow start after the JE outbreak but now it’s porky time as usual. A claypot of of mixed Bak Kut Teh where you can find ribs, lean meat, intestines, stomach, mushroom and Chinese cabbage. Dark soya sauce Bak Kut Teh is also popular here. Braised Tau Pok. Poached Vegetable.

Another good try in Setapak is Meng Kee, at Forlong. Just opposite KLC used car.
